Jeeva Tamil Movie Review

Jeeva:

One line story:

The success story of an ardent cricketer who spends, breathes and lives for cricket in spite of several odd.
Actor Vishnu Vishal and Sri Divya

Success formula:

It is yet another success story for the director Suseenthiran. Sri Divya has played the same bubbly character like the one in ‘Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam’. It’s a hit number for Vishal Vishnu as he steps into his glory. Another good thing is after several new directors start ruling the ‘Kollywood’, its time to change for the producers too. Actors Vishal and Arya has produced the movie and it’s a success for them.

Plot:

Vishnu, who is also a real time cricketer, lives as Jeeva in this movie. He fails in his academics, as he concentrates in cricket. He falls in love to a girl lives next door, who calls him as 'Anna' (brother) initially and later she also falls in love. When their love comes to know to her parents, they warns her and she stays away. This helps Jeeva to focus in cricket and he joins in the under-18 cricket. He then meets her lover at a college, by the time he takes into Ranji Team cricket. His friend commits suicide after the duo knocks out of the team. Then Jeeva shines in CPL (#IPL) and then plays for the Indian cricket team.

Flaws:

1. The girl Jenny brings liquor to Jeeva with side dish for a day is acceptable. The girl repeats the same daily when Jeeva accompanies with his friends on the terrace of their house. If he is alone, it is acceptable.
2. In the first scene, Jeeva introduces his father, an EB employee, and suddenly he returns home and calls actor Charlie as father makes us feel as if the director has made a mistake. However we rectifies this in the later scenes.
3There is a gap to be filled in the death of Jeeva’s friend. Suddenly commits suicide blaming the cricket board for not including his name and his friend’s in the Ranji team citing his family situation. There is no earlier mention about his family background.

Commendable for:

1. Jeeva’s father gives up his drinking habit after hearing about his son works in a mobile idli shop to meet his expenses
2. The chemistry between Vishnu Vishal (Jeeva) and Sri Divya (Jenny) in the movie is good
3. The lively character of the cricket control board chairperson resembling the original
4. India is the only country where several good ‘sportsmen’ are losing the battle without even contesting in any of the matches.

Fact:

It is the fact, though Vishnu Vishal shines in Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) and a real good cricketer, he fails to get an entry pass into any one of the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams as a real batsman. There are some real facts and statistics that there are limited people from outside a community gets opportunity to play for the Indian cricket team.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa can appeal the verdict

In the disproportionate asset case slapped on Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, her close aide Sasikala, her sister Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran. In the final verdict in the case, John Michael T Kunha

declared all the four are accused in the case and awarded four years imprisonment along with Rs25 crore fine for each one of them at the special court in Bangalore on Saturday.

As the verdict is out now, there are several questions about the legal ramifications in the case. The Hindu journalist Mr.K.Venkataraman has answers for replied for all the queries.

Q: Can she appeal? Or is this it?

Ans: She has the right to appeal. This is only a Special Court.

Q: What's the maximum possible sentence?

Ans: The Act provides a minimum of one year's prison term and a maximum of seven years.

Q: Who becomes next CM now?

Ans: It's anybody's guess. There are many names doing the rounds. Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam, who on a similar occasion earlier became Chief Minister, and Visalakshi Nedunchezhian top the list.

Q: Will she will be taken into custody immediately?

Ans: If the sentence is up to three years, the Court has the power to suspend its own sentence for some time to enable the accused to appeal. It is the court's discretion. For terms above three years, the court doesn't have this power and the accused will have to go to a higher court on appeal and seek suspension of the prison term. In such circumstances, the accused will have to be taken into custody and lodged in prison.

Q: PR act bars convicted person to be MLA/MP. Which section bars them to be CM/PM/Minister? Will there is a situation where Jayalalithaa is not an MLA but still CM?

Ans: The Representation of the People Act, 1951 does not bar or enable someone to become CM/PM/Minister. It is provided for in the Constitution. Normally, a non-member can be CM for a maximum of six months. However, in 2001, when under a subsisting conviction, she was appointed CM without being a member, the Supreme Court quashed her appointment. The present position is that a non-member can be a Minister only if he or she is eligible to contest and not disqualified for contest.

Q: What happens to her assets?

Ans: There are provisions in law to identify and dispose of such assets through auction, but that is a long way away as it involves a separate process. The appeals will also have to be disposed of.

Q: What will now happen to the TN's assembly?

Ans: The Assembly will not be disturbed.

Q: Can she contest in the next election?

Ans: If the disqualification continues -- that is if the conviction is not overturned or stayed by a higher court -- she cannot contest the next election

Q: Once the sentence period is over can she become CM instantly?

Ans: The law is that the disqualification continues for six years from the date of release.

Q: Why should current set of Ministers resign if the verdict is against her?

Ans: The Cabinet is a single unit and it is wholly appointed on the CM's advice. There is no Cabinet without the CM. The next CM will have to advice the Governor on appointing Ministers

Q: What cases remain open against Jayalalithaa? Can this case be reopened by anyone who wants to appeal against the verdict

Ans: A couple of income taxes and one pertaining a foreign remittance are the only other cases pending against her. The IT case is going on in Chennai, and the foreign remittance (CBI) case is bogged down in technicalities in the Supreme Court. Cases in which she has already been acquitted at the level of the SUpreme Court cannot be reopened

Q: Which state she will be put in jail?

Ans: As of now, it will be in Karnataka. But she has the right to seek a transfer to TN, as the only reason the case was shifted to Bangalore was to ensure a fair trial, which has been achieved.

Q: What will be the legal steps if punishment upto 3 years and more than 3 years?

Ans: Up to three years, the Court has the power to suspend its own sentence and give the accused time to file an appeal. Until then, they need not go to jail. Above three years, the court doesn't have this power and has to commit the convicts to prison.

Who will pay the court expenses?

Ans: The government foots the bill.

Q : Will DMK will gain political mileage through this?

Ans: Yes. The DMK will gain political mileage, more so in the 2016 Assembly elections

Q: Can a State CM declare emergency and continue rule?

Ans: There is no such provision in the Constitution for a state-level Emergency

FAQ

Q: Why did this case take 18 years from first complaint to final verdict?

Ans: The trial was near completion in 2000. However, after the change of regime in 2001, the AIADMK government recalled all the witnesses to change their testimony. The SUpreme Court termed it an attempt to derail the case and transferred it to Karnataka, where it had to be started afresh. Several petitions, translations of documents, large number of legal issues raised, changes in judges and prosecutors, large number of witnesses -- these were among the reasons for the delay

Q: Did this case initially come under Karnataka's jurisdiction?

Ans: No, it was transferred to Karnataka under the Supreme Court's orders. The court felt a fair trial was not possible in Tamil Nadu under AIADMK rule

Q: Can the subjective opinion of a judge change the course of justice?

Ans: Yes, that is why the law provides for appellate remedy.

Madras Movie Review

One line story: A man (Karthi-Kali) lives in Pulianthope slum area in North Chennai and he takes revenge for his friend's death.
After series of failures, a success movie for Karthi, well done...

Plot: Kali works in a private company and a footballer. He falls in love with a girl (Kalaiselvi-Catherine) and his friend Anbu and his wife Mary help them. Anbu works for a rowdy Mari and his rival is Kannan. The two groups dominate in the area and fights for capturing wall writing in the area. Mari takes on his rival side and helps to kill Anbu after he kills Kannan's son in a quarrel. Kali takes revenge on Mari when he comes to know about Mari. Finally, Kali and Kalaiselvi become teacher and teach the slum students.

Flaws:
1. Kalaiselvi has extra makeup and there is lacking in nativity
2. Her dubbing voice doesn't match with the slum people slang.
3. She constantly opposing her boyfriend from entering into rowdyism. After she knows about a friend Johnny's death, she suddenly changes her mind. This makes the audience doubting Kalaiselvi.
4. North ChennI is famous for putting up banners and cut-outs and this is missing in the movie.
5. Except one song, others are not fixed in the mind of the audience after they comes out of the movie hall

The director Pa Ranjith has attempted to make a full-fledged movie targeting the "C" centre audience and he is definitely successful in his attempt.

Positives:
1. The love scenes between Kali and Kalaiselvi gets applause from the audience. When she proposes her love to him, there is a huge wave of laugh among the audience.
2. The spine-chilling chases and murder inside the court scene are nail-biting scenes.
3. The marriage engagement and it's follow up altercation have the nativity feel.

Marks: 3.5 out of 10.

Modi's Mission to US

Who will be benefited by Modi's visit to US? The billions of people in India are expecting for a change. Sensing the feelings of each and every citizen, Modi feels United States as India's vital partner in our national development.

Modi will also address the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly during his visit to US. Modi's speech is expected by leaders across the world due to the turbulence and tension in many places. Can he be saved?

The deadly incident of a brutal murder of a man inside the tiger's enclosure in the zoo in Delhi is shocking to all.
Everyone is asking can he be saved?
There are several questions shot at the zoo authorities.
The man, who was identified as slipped into the dry moat of the white tiger enclosure, cried for help. People were keen to take video of the man trapped inside the enclosure. It is very sad, no one tried their best to rescue him.
Here are some of the ideas shared by my friends.
1. The women should have offered their saree or dupatta to make a long rope and drop it inside the moat to rescue him.
People's mind will stuck to work during emergencies. Talking to a woman police head constable Usha (name changed) from Kilpauk in Chennai, who was robbed by a bike rider when he was pedalling back him from her work, she felt shocked and stunned.
"There is very less time to react to such situation. I am feeling guilty for the man who brave enough to face the huge cat inside its enclosure," she said.
Talking to some of psychologists, they said, "During crisis situation, human beings often react wildly and violently. The sixth sense will not function to take decisions."
In the developing country like India, we often take steps on the corpses. Only after Nirbhaya's incident, government formed stringent act to curb women harassment.
We hope the government will ensure nil death like this in any other zoos across India. Jai Hind.

Kumbakonam Degree Coffee

I travelled with my friend from Chennai to Villupuram and we saw more than three dozens of coffee shops bearing the hoardings as 'original' Kumbakonam degree coffee shop on both sides of the road. My friend asked me to taste it and we stopped our car near the one opposite to the Motel Highway near. Chengalpattu.
The employee grounded the coffee nuts in a hand grinder. He placed the powdered coffee in a stainless steel gadget, which has small holes on the bottom. Then he poured hot water on the coffee powder and used a spoon to dilute it properly.
We waited for about 10 minutes and he told us the 'dikashan' (the essence of coffee through precipitatory process) and brought it to our table. They served us in brass utensils (dabera set in local parlance) in hot. My friend never tasted Kumbakonam coffee, so he enjoyed and sipped it.
Never mind, I even took selfie with the Kumbakonam coffee hoarding and sipping it with brass utensils.
I was keen to know about the chain of coffee shops on this stretch - National Highways connecting Chennai and  Tiruchi.
I was told that most of these shops are belonged to couple of owners. I asked the employee whether he had visited Kumbakonam. He said, 'No.' I even tried to google it.
I got many answers for my queries. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x3wmjVRpZdY

Before we reached Chennai, my friend got about 500 likes and 600 shares in FB and Twitter for uploading his selfie at Kumbakonam degree coffee shop. I suggested my friend to start a new venture in US, where he works as a software engineer for the past one decade. He has left my house with dreams to make big with the new business idea. Cheers my friend.
