Chennai city police laid a honey-laced trap and nabbed three people at Koyambedu when they came to sell 'heroin' for Rs7 lakh.
The police personnel posed as traders and negotiated with the trio - Sethuraman, 27, Kanagasabai, 28 and Prabhakaran, 43 - to buy the consignment. After striking a deal with them, police personnel asked the sellers to deliver the consignment at the busy Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) to avoid being caught by the police personnel.
The trio hailing from Cuddalore came to meet the traders and they brought the heroin concealed in a leather bag covered up with clothes. They refused to hand over the consignment and demanded the police to show the currency notes. One of the accused accompanied the police team and they showed seven bundles of currency notes in the denomination of Rs1,000 kept in another leather bag.
Believing this, the trio showed the consignment and the police team waited for the opportunity nabbed the trio and seized the valuables weighing one kilograms. Police examined the consignment. It costs Rs1 crore in the international market, police said,
As the Chennai police didn't have laboratory to check the contraband, police personnel have informed the forensic officials and also the narcotics control bureau (NCB) officials to check the quality of the drug. Police have detained the trio and inquired them to know the origin of the consignment.
